Judit Faludi - cellist

Judit Faludi (1968) started to play the cello at the age of nine. After completing her studies at the Bartok Bela Conservatory she went to university and graduated at the cello faculty of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music with Csaba Onczay’s guidance. Through her university years she performed with the ensemble of the Hungarian National Opera House and continued playing for them until 1997. In the meantime, she became a member of the Hungarian Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra.

She started her soloist and orchestral career in 1998 and has been a significant component of the Hungarian musical life since. She performs regularly at the Music Academy, the Dome Hall of the Hungarian Parliament and the Marble hall of the Hungarian Radio House.

The Hungarian Radio chose her the ‘Musician of the Week’ in 2005. In March 2007 Judit Faludi was a soloist at the Hungarian Days organized in India. In November that year she performed to an audience of 3000 people, for which she received her second award as ‘Musician of the Week’. In 2008 and 2009 she performed in the United States and Japan as well, and gave a Kodaly concert with violinist and husband Miklos Szenthelyi in the Opera House of Kairo.

She was awarded with the Liszt Prize on the 15th of March 2009 and the Silver Cross of Merit of Hungary on the 20th of August 2008. The famous Italian musical instrument maker, Gagliano, fabricated her instrument in the 18th century.

Some musicians’ lives are dominated by their performances and their career with family being a faded thought in the back of their minds. Not Judit Faludi though. She is living proof that having a family and a musical career can be parallel and is perfectly manageable.

“Since 2001 I have regularly been playing at concerts at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, the Dome Hall of the Parliament and the Hungarian Radio House. I would like to list some of the most significant concerts that I had in the past years:
I played at the Jewish Summer Festival in 2005 and 2006, and in the Palace of Arts I performed BRAHMS A-moll duo concerto with violinist Miklos Szenthelyi in 2005. In 2007 I played at the Budapest Spring Festival and at a concert for the Jewish and Christian brotherhood at the Dohany Synagogue in Budapest for a 2800 audience. In February 2008 I participated in a Tchaikovsky marathon in the Palace of Arts. My first double CD was released in the spring of 2008.”
