Bertalan Hock, organist

Organist Bertalan Hock started his organ studies with István Baróti addition to the Technical College. As his student, he had a chance to participate in the exploration of remnants and sounding of the Mooser organ in the Basilica of Esztergom. He learned the theoretical base here as well. At the Academy of Music he continued his studies with Ferenc Gergely, and in the meantime he supervised the reconstruction of the Rieger organ in 1983 at the Matthias Church in Budapest. He has been working as an organist in the church since then.

After graduation he continued his studies at the Academy of Music in Weimar on a scholarship under Professor Rainer Böhme. He also had the chance to learn the folk-art hauls in Gerhard Böhm's organ-building workshop in Gotha. As an organist concerting throughout Europe, he inspected and mesured the instruments and did comparative studies, as well as became acquainted with the practice of organ building and restoration. Since 1989 he has been a teacher of knowledge of organ and instruments at the Georg Solti Music School in Budapest. He attended the National Organ Preservation Conference as a trustee of the Hungarian National Cecilia Society. Since 1995 he has carried out expert work at the restoration of historic organs in addition to designing new ones.
